Jackson Reads

Imagine – Explore – Read!

Get ready for one of Jackson County’s most anticipated family events of the year!

Join Jackson READS! on Saturday, May 9, 2026 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Ella Sharp Park as part of Jackson County Museum Day for a high-energy, joy-filled celebration of reading, imagination, and family fun.

FREE Books—Lots of Them!
We’re giving away more than 10,000 brand-new books for kids from babies through 8th grade—absolutely free. Each child will receive a bag filled with books to take home and keep.

Choice Books = Books They’ll Love
In addition to pre-packed bags, kids can explore our Choice Books Area to pick titles that match their own interests—because the best books are the ones kids are excited to read!

Enjoy live readings and book signings from six incredible authors:

  • 10:30am – Gary Schmidt, Phil Stead, Devin Scillian
  • 11:00am – DeAnn Wiley, Ciera Strode, Julie Warum

This is a unique chance for kids to connect with real authors and experience stories come to life!

Other activities include:

  • StoryWalk around the museum grounds featuring Don’t Trust Fish by Neil Sharpson
  • Hands-on STEM activities for curious minds
  • Interactive exhibits and activities throughout museum grounds
  • A full day of discovery, creativity, and family fun across Ella Sharp Park

Reading opens doors—and this event helps put books directly into the hands of kids across Jackson County. Whether you’re building a home library or discovering a new favorite story, this is a day designed to spark a lifelong love of reading.
