McKinney-Vento

The McKinney-Vento program supports students experiencing housing instability and homelessness. Over 1,000 students in Jackson County qualify every year. The Jackson County Homeless Education Program also provides training for local liaisons, school staff, shelter staff, and community partners on the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. 

Who Qualifies?

Students and families who live in any of the following situations:

  • Shelter, hotel, motel, campground
  • Doubled up in another home due to loss of housing or economic hardship
  • Inadequate housing which includes not enough space in the home, infestations, lack of utilities (even if shut off for just one day)

How We Can Help

  • Immediate enrollment and assistance getting needed documentation
  • Transportation to and from school
  • School supplies, hygiene products, clothing, shoes, haircuts, etc.
  • Any educational costs including field trips, extracurricular expenses, graduation costs, tutoring
  • Referrals to services and resources
