Registration now open for 2019 JAMA/AMC Youth Camps
Registration is now open for two different JAMA/AMC youth camps held during the summer of 2019. The Jackson Area Manufacturers Association and the Academy for Manufacturing Careers are offering two summer youth programs geared toward students in grades 4-9.
The "I Can Make It! Camp 2.0" serves kids who exhibit strong math and/or science interest or skills and excel in hands-on learning environments as recommended by their school teachers/principals. At this overnight camp, participants experience math, science, technology, and principles of engineering and manufacturing through design, build and test of dozens of cool projects. A few new projects have been added this year: Sphero’s, Drones and Makey-Makey. This camp takes place July 8-12, 2019, Monday-Friday, at Camp McGregor and is for students in 4th, 5th & 6th grades. The cost is $239 for new students or $219 for returning students. A $50 deposit is required with registration. Orientation will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2019.
The "Machining U" Camp serves students in learning how to design, build and test projects using state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment. Attendees visit local manufacturing shops and are introduced to valuable skills such as: Machining, Blueprint Reading, Measurement, Machining Theory, Machining Production, Welding, Fabrication, Metal Bending and much more in a safe, high-tech environment. This camp will take place July 29-August 9, 2019, Monday-Friday at the Jackson Area Career Center and is for students in 7th, 8th & 9th grades. The cost is $189 for new students or $169 for returning students. A $50 deposit is required with registration. Orientation will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2019 from 4pm-5pm. All students and parents must be present.
