JCISD Board President recognized for commitment to school community

April 26, 2021

Jackson, Mich. -- Jackson County Intermediate School District school board president David Salsbury is among 100 leaders to be honored for their dedication to their school communities in the midst of a pandemic.

Diligent Corporation, a modern governance company, recently announced the honorees nominated for its inaugural Modern Governance 100 for Community Boards program. The publicly elected board and council members were recognized for their commitment to serve their communities, especially during these unprecedented times where their vital work takes on an added layer of significance.

David Salsbury has been on the JCISD Board since 1999 and has been Board President since 2011. He also formerly served on the East Jackson Community Schools Board. Mr. Salsbury was nominated by JCISD Superintendent Kevin Oxley for his exceptional leadership and commitment to good governance.

“Mr. Salsbury is always pushing the Board and administration to be at the forefront of educational best practices and service excellence,” said Superintendent Oxley in his nomination. “He keeps the organization's work aligned to our purpose statement, drivers, and goals while making sure the Board provides staff with appropriate policy and resources to accomplish our mission. His calm and deliberative manner is respected by all school districts in our county.”

Modern Governance 100 for Community Boards is an extension of Diligent’s Modern Governance 100 program that launched in 2019 to recognize top governance professionals in the corporate sector who demonstrate dedication and resiliency while driving change across their organization.

“In today’s fast-paced world, it’s often easy to forget that behind every productive local council and board is a team of dedicated individuals working hard to drive positive impact,” said Brian Stafford, CEO of Diligent. “While good governance and overall organizational success go hand-in-hand, it’s important to keep in mind the teams and individuals who are working hard to achieve the mission. At Diligent, we aim to honor these remarkable community leaders and shine a light on the human side of governance.”
