Assistive Technology
Assistive Technology (AT) services in Jackson County are provided through a cooperative effort among the local districts, the Intermediate School District and other community and state agencies. To help support the local districts in the area of Assistive Technology, JCISD provides the following through its Assistive Technology Team:
- Equipment/Device demonstrations
- Professional Development Training and Education
- Information and referral
- 3 month loans
Educators in Jackson County are able to request items to assist special education students. Items are available in each of the following categories:
- Adapted Toys
- Apple Accessories
- Books/Resources
- Computer Equipment
- Equipment
- Executive Functioning Supports
- Headphones
- iPads (mini, regular, Pro)
- Keyboards
- Math Supports
- Mice
- Mounts
- Reading Supports
- Speakers
- STEM
- Switches
- Voice Output Devices
- Writing Supports
Use of these items allows teachers and students a hands-on experience to explore and learn in a natural setting. A trial period often leads to more informed choices of appropriate assistive technology. If the loaned item is determined an effective tool for students, local districts are then able to purchase.
