The mission of the Young Adult Program (YAP) is to provide opportunities for students with disabilities, 18 years of age or older, to set personal transition goals, understand their personal needs, and increase their level of independence to become more fully engaged members of their communities. This elective program concentrates its work in the three areas of transition: Employment, Community Involvement, and Adult Daily Living.

Students will explore a variety of employment options and how to obtain and maintain them including volunteer positions, supported and independent work settings.

Community Involvement

Students will explore different recreation and leisure opportunities available in their communities and learn how to make necessary connections. Students will practice safety skills, transportation / mobility , money skills, and community behavior expectations in community settings.

Adult Daily Living

Students will work on learning life skills. These life skills may include cooking, laundry, housekeeping, personal hygiene, telephone skills, social skills, time management, money skills, housing options.

Planning for the Future!

Recreation, family support, housing options, etc. are all pieces that one must consider when moving into adulthood. Our intention is to assist the young adults and their caregivers in devising a plan that will connect them to programs, services, activities, information and supports for which they are eligible that prepare them to self-manage their health and wellness, pursue meaningful careers, become financially literate and capable, and make informed choices and to become as independent as they are able.
